medical school forumAnyone that has paid any attention to the race for the presidency has heard the call for a change in how our health insurance system works. Reform is probably also a big ticket debate in a medical school forum. According to numbers from the US Census Bureau, 45.7 million people in this county do not have health insurance. This is a problem that needs to be fixed not only for people’s security but also because mounting medical bills only place people in more debt which as we have seen ends up hurting the economy.

The 45.7 million number was from 2007. There is a good chance that number has jumped to 50 million by now. Any medical school forum will advocate for cheap medical insurance. There will never be a free, universal system in this country but it can become more affordable.

The other problem you probably won’t hear about on a medical school forum is that the people who are considered insured may be a part of Medicare or some other government funded plan that hardly helps when a expensive operation is needed.
